1) Lean into the camera Shots where the subject is moving towards, vs away from, the lens evoke more action and make the subject look more confident and engaged. It can be helpful to step forward with one foot (so your two feet aren’t parallel on the same plane) and push your chest/shoulders slightly outwards to help achieve this effect. 2) Change up your poses and expressions Too many people have hundreds of photos of themselves making the exact same face, worse yet they have hundreds of photos of themselves making the exact same face as hundreds of other people. I’ll admit I was one of them for far too long, but I’ve changed my ways and so should you! During a headshot session, strive to change your facial expression, stance or pose between each click. A lot of people think they should stay still so the photographer can get several shots just in case, but unless the photographer asks you to hold it, keep it moving! If you need some inspiration from the king of posing: 3) Iron your clothes This one is nice and simple, don’t wear wrinkly stuff to your photoshoot! I’m a person who rarely thinks about wrinkles/ironing, because truthfully people don’t really notice them all that much in-person, but in a photo they can be super distracting and really downgrade what otherwise would have been an awesome shot.
